Dolphins
“Dolphins are sophisticated, self-aware, highly intelligent beings with individual personalities, autonomy and an inner life. They are vulnerable to tremendous suffering and psychological trauma.” – Dr. Lori Marino
Most of us think that a dolphin is a very common aquatic animal we know of, but that is indeed not true. Dolphins are one of the most unique creatures with some unknown qualities. On an average, a dolphin can live upto fifty years, depending upon the type of species. There are more than 40 species of dolphins, and each one stands out in one way or the other.
The bottlenose dolphin is the most common species. The young ones are called calves/cow and the mother dolphin takes care of her loved one for upto 6 years. Here's a scenario, imagine a fight between a shark and dolphins, who do you think is going to win? Most of you think that sharks have those scary jaws so a shark would win but dolphins live in group of about 20, called pods. So we see the winner here!
As we all know, dolphins are really friendly. But in addition to that, they are the most intelligent beings after humans. What lovely creatures, aren't they? Oh and also, they give names to their fellow dolphin mates, and call each one with a different whistle. Infinitely fascinating, I would say. Have you ever seen a dolphin show? If not you have probably missed one of the most captivating shows to be watched in life. Personally speaking, the way they perform at a dolphin show is absolutely mesmerizing! They sleep with only half their brain at rest (weird!), but one part of their brain needs to be alert and awake to look out for danger.
Killer whales are the largest dolphins, they are about 30 feet and the males can weigh upto 5,000kg. Here are some organizations which focus on the conservation of these beautiful creatures:
1. World Animal Protection.
2. BlueVoice
3. Ocean care
In short I would like to conclude that dolphins are too fascinating, amusing and adorable to become extinct. So hey, let's not let that happen!
Amazing!! 👍👍😍
